Although the weather has turned cold and the 2015 holiday season is now in full force, there are plenty of running events coming up in the next few weeks here in coastal Delaware.

With a constantly growing community of runners and walkers, as well as volunteers and leadership personnel committed to area fitness, coastal Delaware has become a haven for running enthusiasts and annual fitness events over the last decade.

We've received interest about posting a regular listing of upcoming local events, thus this second in our series of fitness-centric entries here on our blog page.

Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon & Half Marathon. This hugely popular local event is scheduled this year for Saturday, Dec. 5, and will wind through the resort throughout the day. An "after party" is also planned. Learn more, or register for the event, at

Share the Holiday Spirit 5K Run/Walk. Just to the north in Dover is this event that will begin at Silver Lake Park and raise funds for Delaware Guidance Services, with accepted food donations benefitting local homeless shelters. Registration fee is $25 through this Saturday and $30 after. Visit HERE for more information.

Snowball 5k Run. This event begins on the Fishing Pier at Cape Henlopen State Park on Sunday, Dec. 13, and is organized by the Seashore Striders. Registration will be open until 9:50 on the morning of the event, with the run kicking off at 10:00. Visit for more information.

Hair of the Dog 10k/5k. Scheduled for Bethany Beach on New Year's Day, this running event is part of the annual Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos event and is sponsored by the Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce. Surfin' Snowman 5 Mile Run/2 Mile Walk. Scheduled for Jan. 2, this event is organized by the same people who run the Coastal Delaware Running Festival. Up to 1,000 participants are expected on the course that will wind through the streets of the resort, as well as on the boardwalk. An "after party" is included. Visit for more information.
